Privacy policy
BeanCounter (“the app”) helps organizations count attendance at events and locations. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, and your choices. It covers the BeanCounter apps for Android, Wear OS and iOS.
Data we collect
- Account information. When you sign in with Google, Apple or email and password, Firebase Authentication stores your email address and a user ID. Google and Apple sign-in may also provide your name and profile photo. You can also try a demo without an account; that uses an anonymous user ID.
- Profile. The name you enter in your profile, which members of your organizations can see, plus an optional phone number and your notification preferences, which only you can see.
- Push notification tokens. If you use the app on a phone, we store a Firebase Cloud Messaging token for each device you're signed in on, so we can send notifications to it. It's removed when you sign out of that device or delete your account.
- Organization and counting data. Organizations you create or join, your role in them, member lists, invitations (the invitee's email address), locations, events and every count entry, including who recorded it and when. We store this in Google Cloud Firestore.
- Organization requests. If you ask us to create an organization, we store the organization name, optional website, contact email and event details you provide, plus a random per-install device identifier used to limit repeat submissions and free trial events.
- Usage analytics. Firebase Analytics records how the app is used, such as screens viewed, sign-in, and events created or counted, along with device and app version information. It is linked to your user ID so we can understand how the app is used; it isn't used for advertising.
- Crash reports. Firebase Crashlytics collects crash logs and device state when the app crashes, so we can fix bugs.
How we use it
- To sign you in and keep your session.
- To store and sync counts across your organization's devices, including your watch.
- To send email: invitations to join an organization, and notifications to BeanCounter administrators about new organization requests. We send email through the Firebase Trigger Email extension.
- To send push notifications you've allowed, such as alerting BeanCounter administrators to new organization requests. You can turn push notifications off in your profile or in your device's settings. We don't currently send text messages.
- To understand usage, fix crashes and improve the app.
Sharing
We don't sell your data and we don't show ads. Your data is processed by Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, Analytics, Crashlytics) as our service provider, and by our email delivery provider for invitations and notifications. Members of an organization can see that organization's members, events and counts. We may disclose data if the law requires it.
Retention and deletion
We keep your data while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time from the app (organizations screen → ⋮ → Profile → Delete account) or by following the steps on the account deletion page, which also explains what is deleted and what is kept.
Security
Data travels over encrypted connections (TLS) and is stored on Google Cloud. Access is restricted by security rules so only members of an organization can read its data.
Children
BeanCounter is intended for use by businesses and adults and isn't directed to children under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date above and, for significant changes, notify users in the app.
